IAC Player of the Week: Taylor Abt, Georgetown Prep
In two games last week for Prep, Abt (Holy Cross) scored 40 points and grabbed 28 rebounds in impressive victories over Carroll and Sidwell Friends. Abt will be the key to Prep's success in 2010-11 and his play last week proved just that.
WCAC Player of the Week: Mikael Hopkins, DeMatha
There weren't very many games played last week in the WCAC, but DeMatha's Mikael Hopkins (Georgetown) made the most of his time on the court. Hopkins scored 18 points, knocked down 8 of 8 free throws and played solid defense as DeMatha beat Carroll 63-53.
MAC Player of the Week: Jamal Lewis, Sidwell Friends
One of the top junior players in the area, Lewis has been on fire this year. Last week he scored 17 in a hard-fought loss to Prep but dropped 15 in a victory over Potomac School. Lewis has scored in double figures every game this season.
DCIAA Player of the Week: Devin Gallman, Roosevelt
Roosevelt beat both H.D. Woodson and Eastern last week and Gallman's play was a major reason why. Gallman scored 32 points over the two games and has 132 points through eight games this season.
Women's Basketball
WCAC Player of the Week: Taylor Brown, McNamara
One of the best players in the WCAC, Brown (Georgetown) had an outstanding week for the Mustangs. Brown scored 30 against PVI, 26 against Bullis and 27 over National Christian. In total, Brown scored 83 points in the three McNamara victories. Check back later this month as DCSportsFan features Brown and her road to Georgetown.
ISL Player of the Week: Zoe Beard-Falls, Georgetown Day
This 6-foot-2 sophomore has been outstanding in her first year at GDS. In six games this month, Beard-Falls has 168 points, including 73 in her last two games. Beard-Falls scored 42 against Ryken and 31 against Holton-Arms.
